Rafael Masbad (Ansonia, Conn.) captured the crown in the 50-yard freestyle. However, the Western Connecticut State University men's and women's swim teams dropped decisions in a tri-meet hosted by Little East Conference foe Eastern Connecticut State University on Monday afternoon. Rhode Island College completed the lineup with a women's squad partaking in the event.
On the men's side, Masbad edged out the lone Wolves victory of the day, touching the wall just ahead of his opponents in a time of 23.36. He also earned a second place showing later in the afternoon, clocking a time of 25.62 in the 50-yard butterfly. Sophomore
Ian Chen (Bethel, Conn.) also notched a second place finish for the men in the 50-yard backstroke (29.00).
Rookie
Emily Kiernan (Watertown, Conn.) put forth a solid effort for the WestConn women. She notched the second spot in the 200-yard IM, touching the wall in 2:29.78.
The men dropped their decision to Eastern, 209-25, while the women fell to both Rhode Island College, 169-46, and Eastern, 213-20. The Wolves return to the water when they host the University of Saint Joseph on Friday at 5 p.m.
