Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Norales Notches Game Winner as Men's Soccer Edges Castleton

CASTLETON, Vt. - Rookie midfielder Jeffrey Norales (Bronx, N.Y.) took a feed from senior midfielder Eduardo Vargas (Norwalk, Conn.) and tallied the lone goal of the game less than eight minutes into the contest to lead the Western Connecticut State University men's soccer team to a 1-0 win at Vermont State University Castleton on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Wolves earned their first Little East Conference victory of the campaign, improving to 5-1-2 overall and 1-0-1 in league play. The Spartans dropped to 3-5 and 1-1.

The visitors controlled the tempo en route to outshooting the hosts by a 20-8 margin. The Wolves also compiled seven corner kick attempts while the Spartans managed just one.

After taking the lead into halftime, WestConn senior midfielder Kent Eannarino (Brookfield, Conn.) nearly connected with the twine. However, his blast knocked off the crossbar less than three minutes in the second stanza.

The Wolves continued to pepper the Spartans with shots. However, Castleton graduate student goalkeeper Andres Soto-Burgos (Bronx, N.Y.) kept things close, recording 10 saves. WestConn junior netminder Matthew Silva (Danbury, Conn.) got the start and was hardly contested, turning aside one shot.

The Wolves return to the field when they host non-conference opponent John Jay College at the WAC on Monday at 6 p.m.
