WestConn Men's Soccer Breaks Out For Dominant Win Over Lehman

DANBURY, Conn. - First-year Adrian Nunez (Kissimmee, Fla.) scored the first two goals of his career to lead the Western Connecticut State University Wolves to a 4-0 victory over the visiting Lehman College Lightning in men's soccer action this evening at Westside Complex.  WestConn improves to 4-1-2, extending its unbeaten streak to five games (3-0-2) and will visit Little East Conference (LEC) rival VTSU Castleton on Saturday at 1 p.m. in its next game.  Lehman drops to 1-4 and visits SUNY Old Westbury on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The offenses took awhile to get going, as WestConn rookie Chance Campbell (Bartow, Fla.) got off the first shot-on-goal of the contest in the 20th minute, but the Wolves pounced on the Lightning for two quick markers over a span of 1:11 to take a 2-0 lead in the 27th minute.  Junior midfielder Kadin Taiho (Waterbury, Conn.) scored the first with 18:21 left in the first half, converting on an assist by freshman midfielder Jeffrey Norales (Bronx, N.Y.), who was making his first career start for the Wolves.  Nunez netted his first collegiate shot on a rebound after WestConn senior captain Kent Eannarino (Brookfield, Conn.) had blasted a shot that was saved by Lehman goalie Daniel Morales.  Nunez struck again in the 37th minute to give the home team a 3-0 lead with the assist credited to senior midfielder Joao Gavilanes (Fresh Meadows, N.Y.).

WestConn outshot Lehman, 10-2, in the first half and, 11-2, in the second but Daniel Morales subbed into the Lehman goal and came up with six saves after halftime.  Junior midfielder Simon Osorio (Norwalk, Conn.) scored the only goal of the second stanza with a rocket past Morales that was assisted by sophomore forward Ian Mounts (Middletown, Conn.).  Junior goalkeeper Matthew Silva (Danbury, Conn.) made two saves over the first 67 minutes to improve his season record to 1-1 for the Wolves.  Andres Barajas made two saves in the first half and took the loss in goal for the Lightning.
