WestConn And Keene State Play To Scoreless Tie In Little East Men's Soccer Opener

DANBURY, Conn. - The Western Connecticut State University Wolves and the Keene State College Owls tied, 0-0, in the Little East Conference (LEC) men's soccer opener for both teams this afternoon at Westside Complex.  WestConn is now 3-1-1 overall and Keene State moves to 2-2-1. The Wolves will play at Western New England next on Tuesday at 6 p.m.  The Owls will be at New England College on Monday at 7 p.m.  Sophomore goalkeeper Zachary Benson (Milford, Conn.) needed to make just one save to collect his third consecutive shutout for the Wolves.

Both teams took just one shot-on-goal in the first half, as Benson had to make a key save on a hard shot by Keene's Cedrick Ishoboravyose from inside the box in the 34th minute to keep the game scoreless.  Keene's Rahul Drukpa got off another bid on the rebound but the ball sailed left of the goal.  In the 40th minute, WestConn sophomore Jacob Burdick (Essex, Conn.) had a chance on a breakaway but his shot was knocked away by the last Keene State defender.  Every statistic was the same for both teams after the first half.

WestConn increased its offensive pressure in the second half, forcing Keene State goalie Regan Raciciot to make four saves in the first 25 minutes.  The closest chance came in the 56th minute when Wolves rookie Emmanuel Fasusi (Lewisville, Texas) beat his defender down the right sideline and made Raciciot dive to make the stop.  Senior Franz Muhaj (Bridgeport, Conn.) put the lone shot on goal over the last 20 minutes with a header right to Racicot in the final minute.  Benson extends his personal scoreless streak to 335 minutes without a goal.  Racicot finished with sax saves for the Owls.
