MAHWAH, N.J. - Junior midfielder
Kadin Talho (Waterbury, Conn.) connected with the twine on a penalty kick in the 54th minute of play to lift the Western Connecticut State University men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory at non-conference opponent Ramapo College on Wednesday night at Athletic Center Turf Field.
With the win, the Wolves improved to 3-1 overall, while the Roadrunners dropped to 0-2-2.
As the score would indicate, it was a close battle throughout. WestConn held a slight edge in shots, 13-10, while the Roadrunners had slightly more corner kick attempts, 3-1.
The visitors had the first quality scoring chance less than six minutes into the game when senior forward
Kent Eannarino (Brookfield, Conn.) had his blast turned aside by Ramapo junior goalkeeper Nikolai Matthews (West Orange, N.J.). The contest remained scoreless at the break.
After the squads exchanged yellow cards, Talho was fouled inside the box, setting up his second goal of the season. Neither team would find the back of the net the rest of the way.
WestConn sophomore netminder
Zachary Benson (Milford, Conn.) earned the shutout win and finished with four saves, while Matthews took the loss and stopped five shots.
The Wolves will seek to earn their third straight win when they square up against visiting Keene State in the Little East Conference opener for both teams on Saturday at Noon.
