CASTLETON, Vt. - Senior
Colleen Foley (Kingston, Mass.) and junior
Vicky Gracy (Bethel, Conn.) each scored four goals to lead the Western Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team to a convincing 17-1 victory at Castleton University on Friday afternoon.
WestConn, now 8-2 overall and 2-0 in the Little East Conference, raced out to an 11-0 advantage following a marker from freshman Fay Junge (Centerport, N.Y.) in the early going of the second half.
By that point of the game, the Wolves had scored eight of the game's first 11 tallies with the aid of an assist.
Foley scored three straight goals during a seven minute stretch of the second stanza while Gracy closed out the first half with a goal of a feed from
Alexa Riggio (North Massapequa, N.Y.).
Riggo finished the afternoon with a hat trick of her own for a total of four points.
Junge and Olivia Davison (Brookfield, Conn.) followed with a pair of goals apiece for the winners.
Megan Ward scored her 12th goal of the season, with 11:22 remaining in the third period, for the Spartans lone goal.
Senior
Anna Schipf (Babylon, N.Y.) and junior
Molly Bresnahan (Noank, Conn.) split time in goal for the Wolves. Schipf made four stops while Bresnahan was unchallenged in 30 minutes.
Katie Opiela suffered the loss in goal for Castleton, which falls to 2-8 overall and 0-2 in the LEC. She made eight saves and withstood 39 shots on Friday.
WestConn returns to action on Wednesday, April 12 when it hosts Worcester State University in a non-conference affair. Game time is set for 6 pm at the Westside Athletic Complex.
