DANBURY, Conn. - Junior attacker
Colleen Crotty (Peabody, Mass.) racked up five goals and dished out a pair of assists, while classmate midfielder
Vicky Gracy (Bethel, Conn.) and senior attacker
Dominique DeMarsico (Danbury, Conn.) contributed six goals apiece to lead the Western Connecticut State University women's lax squad to a 19-9 win over visiting Plymouth State University in a Little East Conference tilt Saturday afternoon at the Westside Athletic Complex on Senior Day.
Wolves senior netminder
Anna Schipf (Babylon, N.Y.) was stellar between the pipes once again, finishing with six saves en route to the win. Classmate midfielder
Meghan Lorenzen (Stony Brook, Conn.) and Gracy could not be contained on the draw controls, scooping up five and eight, respectively.
Sophomore attacker Julia Donovan (Antrim, N.H.) paced the Panthers with a hat trick, while senior attacker Olivia Croke (Norwell, Mass.) chipped in with a pair of scoring strikes.
It seemed that the match would be tightly contested in the early going. The Wolves broke the ice when Gracy tickled the twine less than two minutes into the contest. The visitors answered with a pair before Crotty canned a man-up goal, deadlocking the count at 2-2 to end the first quarter.
However, WestConn pulled away in the second stanza with a 7-0 run. With the score tied at 4-4, the Wolves erupted to seize control and would not look back. Gracy began the barrage with a pair of tallies before DeMarsico rounded out the run, giving the hosts an 11-4 lead at halftime.
The winners continued to pile it on in the third. Gracy began the quarter with her team-leading 50th goal of the campaign. Down a player, DeMarsico capped the spurt with her 44th of the year to make it 16-6 heading into the fourth.
The Wolves would stretch it to 19-6 before the Panthers tacked on the final three goals to conclude the contest at 19-9.
Other notable seniors honored before the game were
Olivia Davidson (Brookfield, Conn.),
Colleen Foley (Kingston, Mass.),
Sophie Leeds (Trumbull, Conn.), and
Jasmine Pena (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.).Â
With the win, WestConn improved to 12-2 overall and 5-0 in league play, while Plymouth State dropped to 8-6 and 4-1.
