DANBURY, Conn. - Junior
Vicky Gracy (Bethel, Conn.) scored five goals and
Dominique DeMarsico (Danbury, Conn.) tallied six total points with three goals and a trio of helpers as the Western Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team cruised to a 20-6 victory over visiting University of Massachusetts Dartmouth at the Westside Athletic Complex on Tuesday night.
After the Corsairs' high-scoring freshman Maddi Wright knotted the game at 2-2, the Wolves exploded by scoring 16 of the game's next 17 markers and put the contest away. During that stretch, the hosts scored 14 unanswered goals.
Junior
Colleen Crotty (Peabody, Mass.) added five total points with a pair of goals and three dimes.
Freshman
Faye Junge (Centerport, N.Y.) and
Alexa Riggio (Massapequa, N.Y.) followed with four and three goals, respectively for the 11-2 Wolves.Â
Wright led UMD with five goals and now has 72 goals in her first collegiate campaign, 21 more than University of Southern Maine's Rachel Shanks.
Senior
Anna Schipf (Babylon, N.Y.), this week's IWLCA Defensive Player of the Week, did not have to make a stop in the first half, but was credited with the victory. Junior
Molly Bresnahan (Groton, Conn.) made five saves over the final 30 minutes for WestConn.
Senior Payton Conceicao made seven saves for UMass Dartmouth.
WestConn improved to 4-0 in the league and are tied with Plymouth State University for league supremacy. Fancy that, the Wolves play host to the Panthers this Saturday, April 22. Senior Day festivities will proceed the 1 pm tilt.
The Corsairs, now 7-5 overall and 1-3 in the LEC, return to the Nutmeg State this Friday to take on Eastern Connecticut State University at Rick McCarthy Stadium in Mansfield.
