Riggio Nets 100th Career Goal as Wolves Cruise Past Keene State, 14-2

DANBURY, Conn. - Junior attacker Colleen Crotty (Peabody, Mass.) netted a game-high four goals and dished out a pair of assists to lead the Western Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team to a 14-2 victory over visiting Little East Conference foe Keene State College in a game that featured a variety of weather and game delays on Saturday afternoon at the Westside Athletic Complex.

Senior attacker Alexa Riggio (Massapequa, N.Y.) registered her 100th career goal for the hosts, while classmate attacker Dominique DeMarsico (Danbury, Conn.) tallied two goals and a game-high three assists. Senior midfielder Colleen Foley (Kingston, Mass.) chipped in with a pair of goals and one helper for the Wolves.

Seniors Haile Ratajack (Brewster, N.Y.) and Mindy St. Marie (St. Albans, Vt.) each found the back of the net once for the Owls.

WestConn jumped out to a five-goal first quarter lead and would not look back. DeMarsico drew first blood with her 35th marker of the season to begin the barrage. The Colleen's (Foley and Crotty) added the ensuing four goals.

The Wolves continued to build on the advantage in the second and third as rookie Faye Junge (Centerport, N.Y.) tickled the twine twice. The winners gained running time with a 10-0 lead in the third before St. Marie scored on a free position shot, cutting it to 10-1 before a lengthy weather delay.

When play resumed, junior midfielder Vicky Gracy (Bethel, Conn.) tallied her team-leading 40th goal of the season for the hosts before Riggio notched her career goal scoring accolade. Ratajack rounded things out at 14-2 with a free position strike to the net.

With the win, WestConn improved to 9-2 overall and 3-0 in league play, while Keene State dropped to 4-9 and 1-2. The Wolves will seek their fifth straight victory when they host UMass Dartmouth in an LEC matchup on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
