DANBURY, Conn. - Sophomore second baseman
Julian Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with two doubles and drove in four runs and the Western Connecticut State University baseball team broke an 11-game skid with a 12-3 victory over visiting Purchase College at Westside Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Gonzalez also scored a pair of runs, walked once and stole two bases. He made two spectacular plays on defense in the win over the Panthers.
The Wolves, now 4-22, pounded out nine hits and worked out nine walks against eight different Purchase hurlers.Â
First baseman
Nicholas Moeller went 3-for-5, drove in a run and scored two other runs for the winners.
Catcher
Zachary Royka drew a pair of walks and came around to score three runs for WestConn.
Zach Kugler improved to 1-1 on the bump after going six stellar innings. He allowed two runs on six hits, struck out eight and walked five for the Wolves.
Miguel Gonzalez and
Sam Capetanakis worked two and one inning of relief, respectively, for the Wolves.Â
Miguel Gonzalez allowed one run on two hits, struck out four and walked one while Capetanakis retired the Panthers on three straight fly out to the outfield.
Purchase falls to 9-12 following Wednesday's non-conference affair.
WestConn travels to Plymouth State University on Saturday for a Little East Conference doubleheader. First pitch is set for noon in the Granite State.
