DANBURY, Conn. - Senior designated hitter
Hunter Loomis (Glastonbury, Conn.) smacked a pair of singles as the Western Connecticut State University baseball team fell to visiting Eastern Connecticut, 15-0, on Tuesday afternoon at Westside Field. With the loss, the Wolves dropped to 3-22 overall and 0-7 in league play, while the Warriors - ranked No. 5 in the latest D3Baseball national poll - improved to 20-5 and 6-1.
The visitors took a 1-0 lead in the first inning before racking up nine runs in the second frame. The highlight of the stanza came from senior Matt Malcom (East Lyme, Conn.) when he smashed a two-run homer over the center field wall.
WestConn graduate student
Tyler Olmo (Ardsley, N.Y.) came on in relief early and put forth a solid effort for the hosts for three innings, holding the nationally ranked squad to just a pair of runs.
The Warriors would put up another pair or runs in both the fifth and sixth innings before adding another in the seventh to round the scoring out at 15-0.
The Wolves return to action when they host non-conference opponent Purchase College tomorrow. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.
