Wolves Pull Away With Big Fourth Quarter Against PSU

DANBURY, Conn. - Senior Benjamin Hawthorne (Manorville, N.Y.) scored twice and four other Western Connecticut State University men's lacrosse players netted goals in the fourth quarter and the Wolves went on to defeat Plymouth State University, 15-6, at the Westside Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon.

Hawthorne finished with a game-high five points as he dished out three assists and WestConn improved to 8-2 overall and are now 2-0 in the Little East Conference.

Sophomore attack Julian Duque (Mastic, N.Y.) led the winners with four goals while Trey Arenow (Holbrook, N.Y.), Joseph Boss (Holbrook, N.Y.) and Stephen Cicchetti (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) each tallied a pair of markers for the Wolves.

The Panthers, now 7-3 overall and 0-2 in the league, were led by Jake Dolcimascolo's four goals and one assist.

Ryan Collins and Nick Drew recorded the visitor's other goals on Saturday.

Rounding out the scoring for WestConn was Peter Traina (East Moriches, N.Y.), Tristan McMahon (Farmingville, N.Y.) and Donald Schaumloffel (Wantagh, N.Y.).

Junior Brendan Grove (Cheshire, Conn.) had another solid day in goal for the Wolves.  In nearly 58 minutes, he made seven saves before giving way for Nicholas Elarde (Lake Grove, N.Y.).  The first-year keeper made a pair of stops in the final 2:29.

Owen McNicols made five saves for the Panthers over the first 57:31.  Matt Montoya came on for the remainder of the game but was unchallenged.

The Wolves begin a three-game road stretch on Wednesday, April 5 when they travel to Saratoga Springs, N.Y. to face Skidmore College.  Face-off is scheduled at 5 pm.

Plymouth State plays host to Eastern Connecticut State University next Saturday.  Game time is slated for 11 am in the Live Free Of Die state.
