DANBURY, Conn. - Seniors
Dominique DeMarsico (Danbury, Conn.) and
Alexa Riggio (Massapequa, N.Y.) each scored four goals as the Western Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team opened the 2023 campaign with a convincing 13-2 victory over visiting Kean University on Saturday afternoon.
Riggo scored a trio of her goals before the first period concluded while DeMarsico scored one in the first stanza and three more in the second half.
Junior
Vicky Gracy (Bethel, Conn.) and freshman
Gina Giambald (East Meadow, N.Y.) each tallied a pair of goals for the winners.Â
Colleen Crotty (Peabody, Mass.) added the final marker and dished out a game-high three assists for the Wolves.
The Cougars added a pair of goals after falling behind, 12-0. Amanda Brzoska (Pennington, N.J.) scored an unassisted man-up goal and Kylie Giordano's (Ringoes, N.J.) goal capped off the game's scoring with 2:26 left in the final quarter.
Senior goalie
Anna Schipf (Babylon, N.Y.) earned the victory but was not challenged over the first 30 minutes.
Junior netminder
Molly Bresnahan (Groton, Conn.) worked the second half and made one save for the Wolves.
Sophomore Nicole Peters (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) stayed the distance for Kean. She made nine saves after facing 27 shot attempts from WestConn.
The Wolves play host to Vassar College on Wednesday, March 1. The draw is scheduled for 7 pm at the Westside Athletics Complex.
