Julian Duque Nets Six Goals In Win Over Sage, 22-10

DANBURY, Conn. - Sophomore attack Julian Duque (Mastic, N.Y.) scored six goals and assisted on two others to lead the Western Connecticut State University men's lacrosse team to a convincing 22-10 non-conference victory over visiting Sage College at the Westside Athletic Complex on a chilly Saturday afternoon.

The Wolves, now 2-0 in the early going, raced out to a 10-1 advantage by the time the first period buzzer sounded.  Duque tallied five of his game-high six goals just 14:05 into the game and now leads WestConn with 10 markers in a pair of wins.

The scoring cooled off when the game moved to the second stanza, but WestConn was able to take a 14-2 lead into intermission.  Both teams matched each other over the final 30 minutes, netting eight goals each.

Senior attack Trey Aronow (Holbrook, N.Y.) scored a hat-trick of his own and now has six goals in two victories.

Other multi-goal scorers for the winners include Peter Traina (East Moriches, N.Y.) and Jon Caravello (Glen Cove, N.Y.) as each tickled the twine twice on Saturday.

The Gators, now 0-1 following their season opener on Saturday, were led by Shea Obado (Spotwood, N.J.) who scored three goals while Chris Yadali (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) was credited with a pair of goals.

WestConn used a trio of net minders today with Brendan Grove (Cheshire, Conn.) earning the victory after making seven saves over the first three quarters.  Gino Schiavo (North Haven, Conn.) made three saves before splitting the final stanza with Jason Friia (Port Jefferson, N.Y.).  Friia made four saves including a trio of rapid-fire attempts from Sage's Anthony Abreu (Monroe, N.J.) in the closing minutes.

The Wolves continue their season-opening home stretch on Tuesday, February 21 when they play host to Salve Regina University.  Face-off is set for 4 pm.

Sage next travels to Misericordia University for a 1 pm tilt on Saturday, February 25.
