DANBURY, Conn. - Senior midfielders
Kent Eannarino (Brookfield, Conn.) and
Eduardo Vargas (Norwalk, Conn.) had a goal and an assist apiece to lead the Western Connecticut State University Wolves to a 5-0 victory over the visiting University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth Corsairs in Little East Conference (LEC) men's soccer action this afternoon at Westside complex. WestConn, ranked No. 8 in the region, improves to 10-1-2 overall and 3-0-1 in the Little East with its seventh win in a row and extends its unbeaten streak to 11 games (9-0-2). UMass-Dartmouth drops to 1-9-2 overall and 0-4 in the league. The Wolves will hit the road for a noon match tomorrow at the Merchant Marine Academy.
WestConn dominated play from start to finish, beginning with a bouncing header by freshman
Chance Campbell (Bartow, Fla.) for the game's first goal in the 11th minute. Campbell received a nice feed from Vargas on the right wing who received a pass from the middle by rookie
Ian Mounts (Middletown, Conn.) to begin the play. UMass-Dartmouth senior forward Joey Paiva tested Wolves junior goalie
Zachary Benson (Milford, Conn.) early with back-to-back shots from close but Benson was up to the task. Vargas put in the second goal on a curling bid in the 24th minute, and Eannarino added the third marker in the 31st minute. WestConn rookie
Adrian Nunez (Kissimmee, Fla.) assisted both Vargas and Eannarino.
WestConn was impenetrable defensively, yelding just three shots in the first half and two in the second, although all five were on goal. Benson had three stops and sophomore goalkeeper
Justin Rivest (Repentigny, Quebec) had two stops in relief. Three goalies combined for six saves for the Corsairs, including four by starter Kellen Porter and two by Jack Waterhouse. Eannarino fed sophomore forward
Maximus Vigo (Canton, Mich.) and senior back
Mark Tricarico (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) scored on a long bouncer in the second half for WestConn in the second half.
