DANBURY, Conn. – Senior forward Myah Croze (Bristol, Conn.) earned a hat trick, while junior midfielder Adriana Alfano (New Milford, Conn.) chipped in with a pair to lead the Western Connecticut State University women's soccer team to a 6-0 win over visiting non-conference opponent Worcester State on Wednesday night at the Westside Athletic Complex.
With the win, the Wolves improved to 4-4-4 overall while the Lancers fell to 1-6-2.
The hosts pummeled the visitors with shots, 24-16. They also garnered 10 corner kicks compared to just two from Worcester.
WestConn pierced the scoring column less than five minutes into the contest when Croze canned her first goal of the game off a feed from junior forward Suzana Imetovski (Seymour, Conn.).
The Wolves continued the frenzy, extending the advantage to 3-0 at halftime. Alfano used her speed to race around a defender and fire a ball into the open side of the net in the 14th minute before Croze wrapped a corner kick around the post that just snuck over the goal line moments later.
The barrage continued in the second stanza. Croze canned her team-leading ninth goal of the season when she launched a free kick over the outstretched hands of the Lancer goalkeeper from just outside the box. Shortly thereafter, Alfano connected on her second goal of the game, stretching the lead to 5-0. Junior midfielder Sam Mackenzie (Brookfield, Conn.) ripped a sharp-angled shot just underneath the crossbar to round the count out at 6-0.
The Wolves return to action for a Little East Conference tilt at UMass Dartmouth on Saturday at Noon.
