Julian Ferguson (Enfield, Conn.) caught a trio of touchdown passes for 105 yards, while graduate student running back
Chad Blaszky (Selden, N.Y.) rushed for 112 yards on 13 carries and two scores to guide the Western Connecticut State University football team to its fifth straight victory, downing host Worcester State University, 58-10, on Monday afternoon at John F. Coughlin Stadium.
With the win, the Wolves improved to 6-2 overall and 6-1 in MASCAC play, while the Lancers plummeted to 1-7 and 1-5.
WestConn junior quarterback
Keion Jones (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) threw for 243 yards on 11-of-13 attempts, while senior linebacker
Corey Tehe (Staten Island, N.Y.) anchored the Wolves stingy defensive unit with nine tackles.
WestConn rookie quarterback
Dylan Jackson (Monroe, Conn.) got in on the action late in the second half, tossing a pair of touchdowns to sophomore wide out Rich Stanya (Manorville, N.Y.) and senior running back
Kevin Franceschini (Yonkers, N.Y.).
Wolves junior
Gavin Jones (North Plainfield, N.J.) forced and recovered a fumble less than three minutes into the contest leading to a Blaszky seven-yard scamper up the middle, giving the visitors an early 7-0 lead. The Lancers countered quickly to even it up at 7-7.
However, it was all WestConn from there.
Keion Jones launched a 34-yard scoring strike to Ferguson down the right sideline before the duo hooked up once again on a 22-yard play, widening the gap to 21-7 early in the second quarter. Shortly thereafter,
Keion Jones faked a handoff and rushed across the goal line for a six-yard touchdown, extending the advantage to 28-10. Blaszky scurried around the right side of the line for 33 yards of paydirt just moments later, stretching it to 35-10 at halftime.
The visitors continued the barrage in the second half. Jackson found Stanya on a wide-out screen, good for a 33-yard score to make it 51-10 with less than a minute left in the third. He then connected with Franceschini on a four-yard play, rounding the flurry out at 58-10. Senior kicker
Anthony Weidtman (Lake Hiawatha, N.J.) went 6-for-6 on PAT's while also launching a 26-yard field goal for the Wolves.
WestConn will look to continue its march towards a bowl bid when they wrap up the regular season slate at MASCAC nemesis Fitchburg State on Saturday at Noon.
