GORHAM, MAINE - The visiting Western Connecticut State University Wolves suffered a heartbreaking, 3-2, loss on the road against the University of Southern Maine Huskies in Little East Conference (LEC) women's soccer action this afternoon on Hannaford Field. WestConn falls to 7-7-4 overall and 4-2-1 in the Little East heading into a home match against Salem State on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Southern Maine moves up to 12-0-4 overall and 5-0-2 in the league. Myah Croze (Bristol, Conn.) and junior
Suzana Imetovski (Seymour, Conn.) scored goals for the Wolves.
Southern Maine scored just 6:15 into the game on a goal by Catriona Gould, but Croze answered with an unassisted goal in the 26th minute. Wolves rookie goalkeeper
Gracen Regan (Monroe, N.J.) and Southern Maine's Breanna Atwood were kept busy in the first half with five saves apiece. Regan had to make two more stops early in the second half Atwood denied a Croze bid in the 60th minute, before WestConn took a 2-1 lead on Imetovski's shot inside the far post in the 66th minute.
The visitors did not take a shot the rest of the way, however, while Southern Maine put several more shots on goal and finally tied the match with 2:57 on the clock thanks to a goal by Ashley Sabatino from Julia McKenna. The Huskies came right back and McKenna scored the game-winner 32 seconds later on an assist by Riley Reutchel to remain unbeaten this fall. Regan finished with a career-high 12 saves. Atwood finished with six stops.
