DANBURY, Conn. - Senior forward
Myah Croze (Bristol, Conn.) netted a pair of goals while junior forward
Suzana Imetovski (Seymour, Conn.) chipped in with one scoring strike and two assists to lift the Western Connecticut State University women's soccer squad to a 6-1 victory over visiting non-league foe Salem State University on Wednesday night at the Westside Athletic Complex.
With the win, the Wolves improved to 8-7-4 overall while the Vikings sank to 4-10-2. The hosts outshot the visitors by a whopping 41-5 margin, while also notching a 9-1 advantage in corner kick opportunities.
WestConn wasted little time getting to work as Imetovski ripped a sharp-angled shot just inside the near post less than one minute into the contest. Sophomore midfielder
Sophia Onek (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and Croze added first half goals, extending the Wolves lead to 3-0 at the break.
The hosts would add another trio of goals in the second half, widening the gap to 6-0. Croze tallied her team-leading 15th goal of the season in the 55th minute before junior midfielder
Adriana Alfano (New Milford, Conn.) blasted home her fifth of the campaign in the 68th minute. Junior midfielder
Mackenzie Sam (Brookfield, Conn.) rounded out the barrage with her sixth of the year. The Vikings drew a late foul and broke up the shutout with under a minute to go when senior midfielder Sydney Durkin (Dracut, Mass.) cashed in her ninth marker of the year, concluding the game at 6-1 in favor of WestConn.
The Wolves return to action for their regular season finale when they host Rhode Island College in a Little East Conference matchup on Saturday at 1 p.m. The LEC Postseason Tournament is slated to begin on Tuesday.
