PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The visiting Western Connecticut State University Wolves took two of three doubles points but came up empty in singles play, falling to the Rhode Island College Anchorwomen, 5-2, in the semifinal round of the Little East Conference (LEC) Women's Tennis Championship Tournament this afternoon. No. 6-seeded WestConn finishes the year with an 8-7 record, having bested No. 3-seeded Bridgewater State in the opening round to reach the semifinals. Rhode Island College will face top-seeded UMass-Boston in the conference finals on Saturday.

Natalie Paradise (Naugatuck, Conn.) added an 8-3 win at third doubles to give WestConn a 2-1 lead entering singles play. The Anchorwomen took back the lead quickly with three straight-set triumphs in the middle of the order and led, 4-2. with three matches in progress. Kitt battled through a medical timeout due to a sore foot, but eventually succumbed, 6-2, 6-1, to Rhode Island College's Lauren Macera to clinch the match for the home team.
Today's loss stings a bit as we definitely had our chances to win, but nonetheless it has been an amazing season," said WestConn Head Coach Shawn Stillman. "With each match, we continued to get better and hungrier. Our pre-season goal was not only to make the conference playoffs but also to get some wins and be competitive. I am proud of our team."
