DANBURY, Conn. - Senior running back
Chad Blaszky rushed for 126 yards on 25 carries and scored on a two-yard run, but the Western Connecticut State University football team fell to visiting Bridgewater State University, 40-27, on Homecoming at the Westside Athletic Complex on Saturday night.
The Bears, now 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, were led by the combination of senior signal caller James Cahoon and senior running back Adam Couch.Â
Cahoon completed 15 of 24 passes for 279 yards and touchdowns of 40 yards and 13 yards to Jack McCarthy as the Bears raced out to a 14-0 advantage midway through the first quarter and never looked back.
Couch registered 21 carries for 150 yards and TD runs of three and 63 yards to go along with his aerial score.
WestConn, now 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the league, were snake bitten by four
John Giller interceptions and a fumble lost on Saturday. The sophomore quarterback completed 19 of 37 passes for 272 yards and rushed for another 33 yards,
The Bears' biggest lead, of the night, 34-7, came with 5:28 remaining in the third stanza following Couch's three-yard plunge.
The Wolves would go on to scored 20 of the games next 26 points, but could not get over the hump before the final buzzer sounded.
BSU senior Jaren Alves collected three interceptions for a total of 17 yards. Daniel Akinsheye snagged the other Wolves miscue and had an addition 17 yard return.

Raquell Davis ed the Wolves with six tackles apiece while
Stephen Johnson and
Luke Pappalardo added four tack downs.
Brendan Albert registered a game-high 10 tackles for the winners. Steven Silva and Dilaver Ibrahimi added nine and eight tackles, respectively for the Bears.
WestConn has a short week coming up as it travels to University of Massachusetts Dartmouth on Friday, September 30. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 pm against the Corsairs.
Bridgewater State will host its own Homecoming Saturday on October 1 when it welcomes Fitchburg State University for a 4 pm tilt.
