Chad Blaszky Rushes For 118 Yards And A TD In Loss At UMD

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. - Senior running back Chad Blaszky was a workhorse, carrying the ball 25 times for 118 yards and scoring on a one-yard dive, but the Western Connecticut State University football team dropped a 48-21 decision at University of Massachusetts Dartmouth at Cressy Field on Friday night.

Sophomore quarterback John Giller completed 13 of 26 passes for 146 yards and tossed a 13-yard touchdown to Blaszky to knot the game at 14-14 with 11:33 remaining in the first half.

The Corsairs, 4-1 overall and undefeated in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference at 3-0, would score 20 unanswered points to squash the Wolves chance to pull the road upset.

Dante Aviles-Santos capped off the scoreless string by the visitors with his fourth of six TD throws when he connected with Keenan Little from 15 yards out with 6:45 remaining in the third stanza.

Aviles-Santos completed 20 of 25 passes for 333 yards and hurled scoring tosses of 34, 10, 43, 15, four and 64 yards, respectively.

Shakespeare Rodriguez scored WestConn's other touchdown on an end around from the host's one yard line with 3:50 left in the first quarter.

UMD's balanced and potent offensive attack amassed 181 yards on the ground with Luis Gonzalez collecting 112 yards on 19 carries.  He scored a five-yard touchdown to open the game-s scoring, 1:44 into the contest.

Angel Sanchez led all wide outs with seven catches for 141 yards and a pair of scores for the winners.

WestConn, now 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the league, possessed the ball over seven minutes more than the Corsairs, but UMass Dartmouth's offense used long and quick strikes to pull away midway through the game.

Defensively, Raquell Davis tallied a Wolves-leading six tackles while Myles Wilson and Mileeq Green registered five tackles each.

Trell Best finished with a game-high tackles for the Corsairs.

WestConn continues its two-game road trip next Saturday when it visits long-time arch-rival Plymouth State University.  Kick-off against the Panthers is slated for 1 pm in the Live Free of Die state.
