DANBURY, Conn. - Sophomore forward
Suzana Imetovski (Seymour, Conn.) scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season and the Western Connecticut State University women's soccer team held on to defeat visiting Russell Sage College, 1-0 at the Westside Athletic Complex on Tuesday night.
Imetovski rattled off a shot from outside the box after receiving a short pass from
Kyla Norton (East Hampton, Conn.). Gators goalie Emma DeMatteo, who entered the contest following intermission, made the initial save but it would trickle through the big gloves at the 50:46 mark. The sophomore net minder finished with six saves in the final 45 minutes.
Freshman goalie
Gia Giorgianni (Easton, Conn.) made six saves in her first collegiate start for the Wolves.
WestConn evens its record at 4-4 on the season while Russell Sage drops to 2-4-1 following the non-conference match up on Tuesday.
After enjoying an 11-3 shot advantage in the first stanza, both squads attempted 11 shots in the final period. Norton, fresh off her hat trick last Saturday in WestConn's 7-1 win at Rhode Island College, finished with a game-high five scoring attempts.
The Wolves return to Little East Conference action this Friday, September 23 when they play host to arch-rival Keene State College. The Homecoming Night battle is scheduled for 6 pm.
