DANBURY, Conn. – Senior forward
Myah Croze (Bristol, Conn.) tallied a goal and one assist to guide the Western Connecticut State University women's soccer squad to a 3-1 win over visiting Keene State College in a Little East Conference matchup on Friday night at the Westside Athletic Complex.
With the win, the Wolves improved to 5-4 overall and 2-0 in league play, while the Owls fell to 4-4-1 and 0-1.
It was all WestConn from wire-to-wire as they erupted to outshoot the visitors by a whopping 29-2 margin. The hosts also racked up 11 corner kick opportunities while the Owls managed just three.
The Wolves ignited the scoreboard when Croze booted a long pass down the left sideline. Sophomore forward Suzan Imetovski (Seymour, Conn.) tracked down the feed and dribbled in to blast a sharp-angled shot inside the far post less than six minutes into the contest.
Croze would gather a pass from midfield and rip her third goal of the season into the twine midway thru the first half, assisted by classmate
Julia DePalma (Kings Park, N.Y.). WestConn would hold the 2-0 lead at the break.
Keene sliced the deficit to 2-1 early in the second stanza when rookie midfielder Bella Balsama (Hollis, N.H.) gathered a rebound and fired a shot into the open side of the net.
However, the Wolves would answer when senior
Samantha Larkin (Wallingford, Conn.) headed home a winding corner kick off the foot of junior midfielder
Hannah Daly (Newtown, Conn.). The Owls could not overcome the 3-1 advantage.
First-year goalkeeper Riley Andriski (Newmarket, N.H.) kept the visitors in the game with some stellar saves, finishing with 11.
WestConn returns to action for yet another LEC tilt when they host cross-state archrival Eastern Connecticut on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
