WestConn Sails To Victory At Rhode Island College, 7-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Sophomore midfielder Kyla Norton (East Hampton, Conn.) scored a hat-trick and the Western Connecticut State University women's soccer team defeated by host Rhode Island College, 7-1, in Little East action played at Alumni Field on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Wolves improve to 3-4 overall and are 1-0 after both squads were making their season debut in the LEC.

Rhode Island College  falls to 0-4-1 and 0-1 in the league.
 
The Wolves scored in bunches during the first half, netting four goals in a five minute stretch. Junior midfielder Hannah Daly (Newtown, Conn.) opened the scoring in the 20th minute.
 
Norton struck for the Wolves' next two goals, the first in the 20th minute and the second in the 24th minute. The fourth and final goal of the first half came off of the boot of senior midfielder Myah Croze (Bristol, Conn.) in the 25th minute.
 
WestConn dominated in shots, 21-2, over the first 45 minutes.
 
It didn't take long for the Wolves to get back on the scoreboard in the second frame as Norton completed the hat-trick in the 56th minute.
 
 The Anchorwomen were able to stop the bleeding after sophomore midfielder Marissa Ruzzano (Smithfield, R.I.) was tackled in the box in the 64th minute, which resulted in a penalty kick that she was able to convert and avoid the shut out.
 
WestConn added two goals for good measure, the first from sophomore forward Suzana Imetovski (Seymour, Conn.) in the 68th minute and by sophomore midfielder Madison McCormick (Levittown, N.Y.) in the 84th minute.
 
RIC senior goalkeeper Maya Benedict (Tempe, Ariz.) suffered the loss (0-4) and made eight saves. Freshman net minder Kelly Graziano (Johnston, R.I.) played the final 45 minutes and stopped two Wolves' offerings.
 
Senior goalkeeper Kristen Roessler (Danbury, Conn.) made two saves in 57 minutes to earn the win (3-4) before freshman Gia Giorgianni (Easton, Conn.) stopped one shot in relief for the visitors.
 
In upcoming action, the Wolves play host to non-conference foe Russell Sage College on Tuesday, September 19.  Game time is set for 6 pm at the Westside Athletic Complex. 

Rhode Island College will play at Mass. Maritime on Wednesday, September 21 at 7 pm.
