PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Despite sophomore forward
Suzana Imetovski (Seymour, Conn.) tallying her team-leading fourth goal of the season, the Western Connecticut State University women's soccer squad fell at non-conference opponent Johnson & Wales University at Scotts Miracle-Gro Field.
With the loss, the Wolves dropped to 2-3 overall while the Wildcats improved to 2-2-1.Â
The hosts held the edge in shots, 18-13, while also maintaining the advantage in corner kicks, 8-4.
Johnson & Wales struck for the first goal less than one minute into the contest. Angelina Oliveira gathered a loose ball in the box and netted her first goal of the season. The Wildcats widened the gap to 2-0 just 30 seconds later when Caroline Wallace took a feed from Jordan Restivo and found the back of the net.
Imetovksi countered for WestConn when buried a shot into the twine off a pretty pass from senior forward
Myah Croze (Bristol, Conn.), slicing the deficit to 2-1.Â
Two more players tallied goals in the first half for the Wildcats to make it 4-1. Neither team would score in the second stanza.
Wolves goalkeeper
Kristen Roessler (Danbury, Conn.) took the loss en route to a six save performance. Carly McCrumb earned the win for the hosts and stopped seven shots before Shannon Stockero came on in relief.Â
WestConn returns to action at non-league foe Vassar College on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
