SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Sophomore forward Suzana Imetovski (Seymour, Conn.) scored a pair of goals and Myah Croze (Bristol, Conn.) and Mackenzie Sam (Brookfield, Conn.) registered a tally each as the Western Connecticut State University women's soccer team defeated host Springfield College, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon at Brock-Affleck Field.
At 10:31, WestConn sent the ball ahead in transition and Imetovski played it to Croze for the first strike of the game to go ahead 1-0.
Springfield made it a 1-1 game at the 28:07 mark as Kaleigh Dale (Mansfield, Conn.) rolled it back to Nicole Sweeney (Grafton, Mass.), who crossed the ball to an open Jen Walker (Webster, Mass.), who tapped in the equalizer for the Pride.
With under five minute to go in the half, Imetovski edged a shot past Harper to put the Wolves ahead 2-1, meanwhile Springfield added two more chances before the half, yet came up empty.
The Wolves added another score from Imetovski to go ahead 3-1.
At 67:43, Valisiky Rizos (Southampton, Mass.) beat out the WestConn defenders for a header in hopes to close the gap, however narrowly missed the frame to the right.
The Wolves expanded its lead to 4-1 at 74:28 as Sam placed a cross off the hands of Ryan and deflected into the net.
Despite Springfield earning multiple shots on goal in the final 15 minutes, the Pride could not close the gap.
Kristen Roessler (Danbury, Conn.) made 10 saves in goal for the Wolves.
A.Harper (Taylorsville, Utah) and Taryn Ryan (Holyoke, Mass.) split time in goal for the Pride. Harper made one stop for Springfield.
The Pride are now 1-2 on the season, while WestConn evens its record at 2-2.
Springfield out shot the Wolves, 24-6 in the match, and earned seven corner kicks.
The Wolves get right back at it tomorrow when it travels to Johnson and Wales University, in Providence, RI, for a meeting with the Wildcats at 12 noon.
Springfield continues its five-game home stand on Wednesday against crosstown rival Western New England at seven bells.
