PROVIDENCE, R.I. - In a rematch of last year's conference final, the Western Connecticut State University men's tennis squad came up on the short end of a 7-2 decision, falling at Rhode Island College in a Little East Conference match on a blustery Wednesday.
The dynamic duo of senior
Jay Kilcourse (New Fairfield, Conn.) and sophomore
Kevin Tenesaca (Danbury, Conn.) were edged in an extremely competitive doubles match, 8-4.
However, each rebounded to win their respective singles contests. Tenesaca notched a 6-4, 6-1 win before Kilcourse played some of his best tennis of the season thus far, outlasting his opponent 6-4, 6-3.
With the loss, the Wolves dropped to 5-9 overall and 2-3 in division play, while the Anchormen improved to 9-2 and 4-2.
"Despite the loss, I'm very pleased with the singles performance of Tenesaca and Kilcourse. They played great," said WestConn head coach
Shawn Stillman following the action.
The Wolves will host Bridgewater State University in their regular season finale on Saturday at 1 p.m. The LEC Championships are slated to begin on Tuesday.
