Max Gregory And Riley McGuire Collect Two Hits In Loss To Eastern Connecticut

DANBURY, Conn. - Senior right fielder Max Gregory and junior third baseman Riley McGuire each had two hits, but the Western Connecticut State University baseball team dropped an 11-0 seven-inning-mercy-rule decision to #2 Eastern Connecticut State University in the Wolves home opener at Westside Field on Monday afternoon.

WestConn, now 8-14 overall and 4-8 in the Little East Conference, were held to five singles against senior starter Aidan Dunn.

Dunn went the first six innings, allowed all five hits and struck out one.  He is now 4-0 on the hill for the Warriors, which improve to 28-3 overall and 12-1 in the league.  Tim Pfaffenbichler came on for the final three outs and struck out one.

ECSU scattered 10 hits on the afternoon with third baseman Josh Tower and sophomore first baseman Ryan Parent each collecting two hits with a double.  Parent drove in three runs while Tower pushed two across for the winners.

Senior Michael Kolf suffered the loss and is now 0-1 on the year.  He went four innings, allowed eight runs, seven of them earned, on seven hits, struck out three and walked five.  He also hit two Warrior batters.

Justin Grullon went the next two innings, allowed two unearned runs, struck out one and walked another.  Michael Cunningham followed for the top of the seventh.  He allowed one run on one hits and walked a pair.

The Wolves continue their late-season home stand on Wednesday when they play host to non-league foe Wesleyan University at 4 pm.

Eastern Connecticut welcomes Lasell to its Mansfield, Conn. ball yard on Wednesday.  First pitch is set for 6 pm.
