HARTFORD, Conn. - The Western Connecticut State University baseball team dropped both games of a Little East Conference doubleheader to the University of Southern Maine on Sunday afternoon. Playing as the home squad at Trinity College in Hartford, they fell in the opener, 15-0, before a rally fell short in the nightcap, 10-5.
With the losses, WCSU dropped to 4-9 overall and 0-4 in league play, while the Huskies improved to 10-12 and 4-2.Â
Sophomore
Zachary Royka (Naugatuck, Conn.) highlighted a three-run outburst in the eighth inning of Game Two for WestConn with an RBI double down the left field line. Rookie
Nicholas Moeller (Mahopac, N.Y.) also contributed when he drilled an RBI single before junior
Jesse Dunn rounded the scoring out with an RBI groundout.Â
WestConn met some tough pitching in the opener as the Southern Maine started tossed a complete game while striking out eight. Seniors
Kevin Smith (Vernon, Conn.) and
Joe Desanctis (Brewster, N.Y.) were the only players to record hits against Joy.Â
WCSU will look to rebound when they travel to LEC archrival Eastern Connecticut on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
