Dominique DeMarsico scored two goals, but the Western Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team suffered its first regular-season loss in 746 days, to host and 18th ranked Wesleyan University, 12-5, on Wednesday night.
WestConn, now 5-1, last suffered a regular-season loss against MIT, 14-4, on March 7, 2020. That season, WestConn went 2-1 before the season was canceled due to the new Covid-19 Pandemic. A year ago, WestConn went a perfect 7-0 with a sweep of its inclusive Little East Conference slate. I finished the 2021 campaign with a 10-1 record after capturing the LEC post-season title and advanced to the NCAA Division III third round before it fell to College of New Jersey, 18-4.
Vicky Gracy (Bethel, Conn.),
Colleen Crotty (Peabody, Mass.) and
Colleen Foley (Kingston, Mass.) capped off the scoring for WestConn.
Olivia Lai and Laura Baine paced the Cardinals with four and three goals, respectively.
Amanda Schipf (Babylon, N.Y.) went the distance in goal for WestConn and made a dozen saves.
Abby Wolk earned the victory in net for Wesleyan and made a pair of saves for the winners.
WestConn travels to SUNY Cortland this Friday, March 25 for a newly scheduled meeting with the Red Dragons in upstate New York. Game time is set for 3 pm.
