Zach Edwards (Seymour, Conn.) went 2-for-4, belted a double and drove in one run, but the Western Connecticut State University baseball team began its northern slate with a 5-2 loss at Ramapo College on Wednesday afternoon.

Jake Montas (Elington, Conn.) also collected a pair of singles in four trips to the dish and stole a base for WestConn, now 4-5.

Kevin Smith (Vernon, Conn.) collected WestConn's other RBI with a sacrifice fly.
Graduate student
Mason Blanchette (Brookfield, Conn.) suffered the loss after going six and a third innings, yielding seven hits and four earned runs. He struck out six and walked one and is now 1-1 on the year.
Leading the way for the 6-7 Roadrunners was Brian Baranok who had went 3-for-4 with three doubles, drove in a run and scored three times.
DJ McGinness earned his first victory of the season after going seven innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out five and walking two.
Will Paoli grabbed his first save after striking out two and allowing a hits over the final inning and a third.
WestConn opens the Little East Conference slate on Saturday when it travels to University of Massachusetts Boston for a noon double dip with the Beacons. WestConn is scheduled to open its home slate on Sunday, March 27 in a twinbill against SUNY Poly. First pitch is set for 11 am.
