HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Senior
Jay Kilcourse (New Fairfield, Conn.) and sophomore
Kevin Tenesaca (Danbury, Conn.) combined for to win the first doubles match of the season but it wasn't enough as the Western Connecticut State University men's tennis team wrapped up its Spring Break trip with an 8-1 loss to Lancaster Bible College on Wednesday night.
WestConn put up a spirited effort in nearly all of its singles matches but could not come up with the needed points to snag any victories. Tenesaca's match was the closest as his opponent rallied for four straight points to escape with the win.
"We played four matches in four straight days and each day, I saw a confidence and skill growth in our team. Todays match consisted of too many missed opportunities, so we need to improve there, howeve, it was a great team experience to be able to go away for spring break and this will have a positive result for our team this season," stated WCSU head coach
Shawn Stillman following play.
With the loss, WestConn dropped to 1-3 overall, while Lancaster improved to 5-1. WCSU returns to the court at Yeshiva University on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
