Baseball Rally Falls Short in Loss to Hood, 15-7

FORT PIERCE, FL - Trailing 10-0 early in the game, the Western Connecticut State University baseball team stormed back, however, the rally came up short as they fell to Hood College, 15-7, on Thursday afternoon. With the loss, WCSU dropped to 4-3 overall, while Hood improved to 7-9.

Hood notched eight runs in the second frame and a pair in the third to take the advantage. But WestConn would not go down quietly. They erupted to put up seven runs in the fifth, shrinking the deficit to 10-7.

Junior Joe Gambino (Stamford, Conn.) ignited the comeback attempt with a bases loaded walk. After a pair of RBI singles and another pair of walks, senior catcher Zach Edwards (Seymour, Conn.) was hit with the bases juiced to force in yet another run to make it 10-7.

Hood countered with a pair of RBI doubles in the sixth, widening the gap to 12-7 before adding two in the eighth and one in the ninth to seal the win.

WestConn wraps up the spring trip when they meet Franciscan University tomorrow at 10 a.m.
