KEENE, N.H. - Freshman forward
Rosaleen Regan (Monroe, N.J.) scored a team-high 13 points, but the Western Connecticut State University women's basketball team dropped a 70-52 decision at Keene State College on Saturday afternoon.
WestConn, now 6-13 overall and 1-9 in the Little East Conference, will face the Owls in less than 24 hours in a make-up game at Feldman Arena at 2 pm.
Aryanna Murray and Hailey Derosia led the hosts with 18 and 16 points, respectively at Spaulding Gym.
There were three ties and four lead changes for both sides on Saturday, all in the first stanza. Senior
Katelyn Fanning (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) buried a bucket from beyond the three-point arc to put the visitors up, 9-7, with 3:48 remaining in the opening period. She finished with seven points and six rebounds.
Twenty-five seconds later, Michelle LaBonte, the younger sister of WestConn alumna Kaitlyn LeBonte (South Windsor, Conn.), canned a three-pointer to put the Owls up, 10-9. The hosts never trailed again.
WestConn and the Owls were forced to sit in virtual darkness for over an hour as a power outage on the KSC campus occurred just before half time. After closing out the second quarter following the long delay, the Owls led, 33-23.
Keene State, now 6-12 overall and 3-8 in the conference, finished with a 32-12 advantage on points scored off of 29 WestConn miscues.
WestConn, behind a game-high 10 rebounds from
Ashley Rilley (Orangeburg, N.Y.), finished the game with a 47-31 advantage on the boards and outscored KSC, 13-5, on second-chance points. Rilley added eight points and dished out a team-high four assists in the loss.
