Box Score PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Despite game-highs of 20 points and seven rebounds from junior forward
Kendall Robinson (East Patchogue, N.Y.), the fifth-seeded Western Connecticut State University men's basketball team fell at fourth-seeded Plymouth State, 71-62, in the quarterfinal round of the Little East Conference Championship Tournament on Tuesday night. WIth the loss, WestConn's season came to an end at 13-12 overall while the Panthers improved to 15-11 and advanced to the semifinal round to be played on Thursday night.
Senior guard
Matthew Turner (Trumbull, Conn.) chipped in with 14 points for the visitors. Kyler Bosse paced the Panthers with 13 points and six rebounds, while Yansel Reyes added 12 points.
Plymouth jumped out to an early 10-3 lead. WestConn would retaliate with a run to seize a 19-18 lead midway through the first half when Robinson took a feed and powered down the lane for a layup.
The hosts responded to regain a 36-28 advantage at halftime when Devin Cooper scurried in for a runner off the glass.
WestConn wouldn't give up though. They rallied once again and went up by a 52-46 margin when junior forward
Ryan Alkins (Queens, N.Y.) muscled home a shot.
However, Plymouth struck back with an 11-2 run midway through the second stanza. WCSU answered but could not regain the lead the rest of the way.
Both teams displays were nearly identical in the final box score. But the hosts showed their depth as the bench managed to outscore the visitors reserves, 21-13. WestConn will look to avenge the season ending loss in November.
