DANBURY, Conn. - Senior guard
Kendall Robinson (Bellport, N.Y.) tallied a game-high 26 points while senior forward
Jaheim Young (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and junior guard
Jalen Jackson (Brick, N.J) each chipped in with 11 to lead the Western Connecticut State University men's basketball team to a convincing 82-66 win over visiting UMass Boston in a Little East Conference tilt on Tuesday night at Feldman Arena.
With the victory, the Wolves improved to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in league play, while the Beacons fell to 4-3 and 1-1.
Senior forward Malik Lorquet (Sharon, Mass.) paced the visitors with 15 points to go along with a game-high 13 boards. Sophomore forward Ike Eluwa (Princeton, N.J.) added five points and 10 off the glass.Â
WestConn's full court pressure led to 25 UMass Boston turnovers. The Beacons snagged 54 rebounds while the Wolves finished with just 40. However, the hosts shot 32-of-71 (45 percent) from the floor while the visitors connected on only 19-of-62 (30 percent) attempts.Â
UMass Boston jumped out to an early 14-5 lead but WestConn retaliated with a 12-2 run to capture a 17-16 advantage. Robinson finished off the spurt when he drilled a three-pointer off a feed from sophomore guard
Keeshawn Jones (Middletown, N.Y.).Â
The lead switched hands several times in the first half before the Wolves entered the locker room at the break with a 40-36 cushion.Â
WestConn opened the second stanza with a 10-0 flurry and would not look back the rest of the way. Young powered in a layup after a steal from Jackson to round out the run. The Wolves stretched the gap to 22 points late in the game.Â
WCSU will look to extend the win streak to seven when they travel to non-conference opponent York College on Friday at 7 p.m. The Beacons head to Curry College on Thursday at 6 p.m.
