PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Senior guard
Kendall Robinson (East Patchogue, N.Y.) racked up yet another double-double on Saturday night. This time he led the Western Connecticut State University men's basketball team with 13 points and a game-high 14 rebounds as they rolled past host Plymouth State University, 62-45, in the Little East Conference opener for both squads at Foley Gym.
It marked Robinson's second double-double of the young season. Senior forward
Ryan Alkins (Queens, N.Y.) joined him in double figures, netting 11 points to go along with four boards, three steals and two blocks.
Kevin Henry led the Panthers with a game-high 14 points, while Elijah Swanson chipped in with seven and five off the glass.
Neither team shot the ball particular well for the night. The Wolves managed to go 24-of-61 (39 percent) from the floor, while Plymouth was held to 15-of-50 (30 percent).
However, WestConn pounded the interior with 42 points in the paint, while the Panthers notched just 16. The Wolves bench also provided an additonal punch as the reserves accounted for 28 points, while the hosts drained 14.
The contest was close early on until the visitors sealed the opening half with a 12-0 spurt. Junior guard
Jalen Jackson (Brick, N.J.) rounded out the run with a layup less than a minute before the break, putting WestConn ahead 31-17.
The lead ballooned to as much as 23 points in the second half when Alkins converted a pair of free throws midway thru the stanza to make it, 54-31. The Panthers would not get much closer as the Wolves breezed to victory.
With the win, WCSU improved to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in league play, while Plymouth sank to 6-3 and 0-1. WestConn returns to action when they host UMass Boston in another LEC affair on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
