DANBURY, Conn. - Senior forward
Myah Croze (Bristol, Conn.) tallied two goals and one assist to lead the second-seeded Western Connecticut State University women's soccer team to a 4-0 victory over visiting third-seeded UMass Boston in the Little East Conference Postseason Tournament semifinals on Thursday afternoon at the Westside Athletic Complex.
With the win, the Wolves improved to 13-6-1 overall while the Beacons season came to an end at 9-9-3. WestConn advances to the LEC Championship game and will travel to top seeded host Southern Maine on Saturday at 5 p.m. The Huskies downed No. 4 Castleton University, 2-0, in the other semifinal matchup on Thursday.
Croze got things started for the hosts when she took a feed from sophomore forward
Suzana Imetovski (Seymour, Conn.) and found the back of the net 35 minutes into the first half.
Shortly thereafter, Imetovski canned her team-leading 12th goal of the season, widening the Wolves lead to 2-0 before the break.
WestConn would tack on another pair of scoring strikes in the second half. Croze found junior midfielder
Hannah Daly (Newtown, Conn.) for the third goal on the evening in the 55th minute of play.
Croze rounded the count out at 4-0 with her 10th goal of the campaign in the 64th minute courtesy of a nifty pass from rookie midfielder
Miranda Martincic (Whitestone, N.Y.).
For the game, the hosts outshot the visitors by a 22-15 margin while also holding the advantage in corner kicks, 7-1.
WestConn senior goalkeeper
Kristen Roessler (Danbury, Conn.) earned the win and recorded six saves before being relieved late in the game. UMass Boston's Maria Spylios finished with five stops.
The Wolves will look to defend the LEC Crown when they battle the Huskies on Saturday at a time to be determined.
