DANBURY, Conn. - Graduate student
Katelyn Fanning (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) notched a double-double which included a game-high 17 points and 13 rebounds to propel the Western Connecticut State University women's basketball team past visiting non-conference foe City College of New York, 71-42, on Saturday afternoon at Feldman Arena.
With their home-opening win, the Wolves improved to 1-1 overall while the Beavers dropped to 1-3.

Nicole Vivian (New Milford, Conn.) joined Fanning in double figures as they tallied 12 and 10 points, respectively. Senior forward
Ashley Rilley (Orangeburg, N.Y.) added a game-high six assists for the hosts.Â
Sophomore guard Kasia Morrison (Bronx, N.Y.) paced the visitors with 15 points, while junior forward Monae Laing (Bronx, N.Y.) contributed a double-double on 10 points and a game-high 14 boards.
WestConn led from the opening tip as they opened the contest with a 5-0 spurt. They widened the gap to 20-7 to end the first stanza when Fanning connected on a layup off a nifty feed from Vivian.
The lead grew to 19 when Fanning knocked down a pair of free throws midway thru the second. The Wolves would hold a 37-21 advantage at the break.
It was more of the same in the second half as the Beavers could not rally. The hosts went up by as many as 33 points in the fourth.
For the game, WestConn sank 24-of-29 free throw attempts (82 percent), while CCNY hit just 12-of-21 (57 percent) of their opportunities from the line. The Wolves also held a commanding edge off the glass, snagging 58 while the Beavers managed just 38.
WestConn returns to action when they host non-league foe Mitchell College on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
