WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior forward
Myah Croze (Bristol, Conn.) fired home a long range shot for the game-winning goal with less than four minutes remaining to lift the Western Connecticut State University women's soccer team to a dramatic come-from-behind 3-2 victory at non-conference foe Worcester State on a soggy Tuesday night.
With the win, the Wolves improved to 8-4 overall, while the Lancers dropped to 2-8-1.Â
The hosts entered early second half play with a 2-0 lead. Haley Mignon notched the first goal of the contest in the 24th minute of play before assisting on the second in the 48th.Â
The WestConn rally began when senior
Samantha Larkin (Wallingford, Conn.) took a feed from junior
Hannah Daly (Newtown, Conn.) and tickled the twine. Daly would then deadlock the count at 2-2 midway through the period when she found the back of the net, unassisted.Â
The action was furious in the waning minutes. Worcester State rushed downfield and ripped a shot off the crossbar. Moments later, Croze dribbled around a pair of defenders to create space and launch a ball from 20 yards out that would cross the goal line at 86:11.Â
Both goalies were equally impressive between the pipes. WestConn sophomore
Kasey Donnelly (New Milford, Conn.) notched 11 saves while Mallory Dupuis recorded 19 for the Lancers.
The Wolves will look to remain undefeated in Little East Conference play when they head to Plymouth State University on Saturday at Noon.Â
