PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Sophomore
Emma Sonski (Naugatuck, Conn.) netted her first goal of the season as the Western Connecticut State University women's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie at Plymouth State University in a Little East Conference matchup on Saturday at Arold Field.
The Wolves moved to 8-4-1 overall and 4-0-1 while the Panthers went to 5-5-2 and 1-2-2.
WestConn got out to an early lead as the Wolves were able to score in the 11th minute when Sonski scored, unassisted.
After some back-and-forth between both teams, Panther senior Abbey Johnson tied the game with a corner kick that went through the goalkeeper's hands and into the net for the equalizer in the 38th minute.
Each team had chances to break the tie, but additional shots were turned aside and the game would end in a stalemate.
Each of the game's two goals came with some controversy, as it appeared as though Plymouth graduate student Elena Register had corralled the WestConn shot, though the assistant referee ruled the ball had crossed the goal line.
Shortly thereafter, the WestConn sideline believed Johnson's corner kick did not initiate from within the arc, but the goal was ruled good.
The Wolves finished the contest with nine shots, while the Panthers tallied 14. Each side notched six corner kick attempts.
WestConn returns to action for a non-league matchup at Farmingdale State University on Monday at 6 p.m.
