DANBURY, Conn. - Sophomore forward
Suzana Imetovski (Seymour, Conn.) and rookie midfielder
Miranda Martincic (Whitestone, N.Y.) netted two goals apiece to guide the Western Connecticut State University women's soccer team to a 4-0 victory over visiting non-conference opponent Bard College on Wednesday night at the Westside Athletic Complex.
With the win, the Wolves improved to 11-6-1 overall while the Raptors sank to 3-12-1.
The hosts pierced the scoring column just 2:15 into the contest when Imetovski rushed upfield, faked a shot to move around the goalie, and buried a shot into the open twine.
Shortly thereafter, she notched her team-leading 11th goal of the season. Junior midfielder
Hannah Daly (Newtown, Conn.) deflected a corner kick feed to Imetovski who caught the netminder leaning the wrong way en route to a low blast into the back of the net.Â
The WestConn first half barrage would continue. Less than 30 seconds after checking into the game, Martincic ripped a sharp-angled shot that ricocheted off the Raptor goalie's hands and found its way across the stripe. Martincic added her second goal of the campaign less than two minutes later when she fired home a rebound off a penalty kick attempt, widening the Wolves lead to 4-0 at the break.Â
Neither team scored in the second. However, Bard played stronger, shooting one of the post and another off the crossbar. Bard sophomore goalkeeper Sam Finn (New Canaan, Conn.) kept the visitors in the game with a stellar outing as she notched 11 saves.
WestConn returns to action for Senior Day when they host Southern Maine on Saturday at 10 a.m.
