Box Score NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - The Western Connecticut State University men's soccer team utilized a balanced scoring attack en route to a 3-1 victory over non-league opponent Salem State University on the final day of the MCLA Tournament on Sunday afternoon at Shewcraft Field. Three different players scored for WestConn while senior netminder Daniel Szabo (Trumbull, Conn.) recorded eight saves en route to the win. Westconn improved to 3-0 overall while the Vikings dropped to 1-3.

WestConn got off to yet another fast start and would not look back. Senior forward Ricardo Rodriguez (Danbury, Conn.) sparked the flurry when he fired a shot into the top corner off the cage off a Salem State turnover less than two minutes into the contest. 

Moments later, classmate Matthew Restrepo (Bridgeport, Conn.) threaded a pass to sophomore Kent Eannarino (Brookfield, Conn.) who buried his second goal of the season, stretching the lead to 2-0. Rodriguez then blasted a shot off the post just seconds later. WestConn would maintain the 2-0 advantage at halftime. 

Things got a bit chippy early in the second as each team received a yellow card. WestConn widened the gap to 3-0 when sophomore Masai Castillero (Norwalk, Conn.) took a feed from Rodriguez and found the back of the net in the 69th minute. Senior netminder Daniel Szabo (Trumbull, Conn.) had his shutout attempt stymied when Salem State scored a goal with just under four minutes remaining, setting the final count at 3-1. He was stellar in net and recorded nine saves while the Vikings went thru a trio of goalies. 

WestConn returns to action when they host Coast Guard Academy on Wednesday at 4:45 p.m.
