SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - After netting a late game-winner yesterday at WPI, junior forward
Myah Croze (Bristol, Conn.) tallied two goals to lead the Western Connecticut State University women's soccer team to a thrilling 2-1 double overtime victory at non-conference foe Western New England on Sunday afternoon at Suprenant Field. Rookie midfielder
Suzana Imetovski (Seymour, Conn.) assisted on both the goals, while senior netminder
Karly Martin (Bristol, Conn.) turned aside 10 shots for WestConn.
After a scoreless first half, WestConn pierced the scoring column in the 58th minute of play when Imetovski laced a pass to Croze who booted the ball into the top-right corner.
Shortly thereafter, the hosts knotted the count at 1-1 when Allyson Hill took a cross feed inside the box and knocked a header into the back of the net. Croze fired a shot just wide with less than three minutes remaining in regulation setting up the first extra session. WestConn had multiple opportunities in the first overtime. However, Bears goalkeeper Molly McLaughlin smothered a pair of shots.
Martin recorded a pair of saves in double OT before Croze connected on the game winner at 105:03. It marked her third goal of the season.
With the victory, WestConn improved to 2-0 overall, while Western New England fell to 1-2. WestConn returns to action for their home opener against non-conference opponent Ramapo College on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
