NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Senior midfielder
Matthew Restrepo (Bridgeport, Conn.) tallied two goals and an assist to lead the Western Connecticut State University men's soccer team to a 3-0 victory at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) in the opening day of the MCLA Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Shewcraft Field. With the win, the visitors improved to 2-0 overall while the Trailblazers dropped to 0-2. WestConn will meet Salem State in Day Two of the invitational on Sunday at Noon.Â
It was all WestConn from the start. Restrepo took a feed from sophomore
Kent Eannarino (Brookfield, Conn.) and found the back of the net 15:52 into the contest.Â
Restrepo would return the favor less than six minutes into the second half when he found Eannarino, who tickled the twine to put WestConn up 2-0.
Restrepo rounded out the scoring with his second goal of the game off a pretty pass from rookie midfielder
Kadin Talho (Waterbury, Conn.)
The visitors finished the game outshooting the hosts by a whopping 26-2 margin. They also dominated corner kick attempts, 10-1.
Senior goalkeeper
Daniel Szabo (Trumbull, Conn.) was hardly tested and finished with one save to earn the victory in net for WestConn.
