Lauria Heads Home Men's Soccer Game-Winner Over Eastern Connecticut, 2-1

Box Score DANBURY, CONN. -  Freshman forward Lorenzo Lauria (New Haven, Conn.) headed home the corner kick from senior Matthew Restrepo (Bridgeport, Conn.), with 2:12 remaining in the second overtime, to lift the Western Connecticut State University men's soccer team to a thrilling 2-1 victory over Eastern Connecticut State University in a Little East Conference battle between intra-state rivals at the Westside Athletic Complex on Wednesday night.

Lauria scored his fourth goal of the season and his second game-winner in his first collegiate campaign.  It was Restrepo's third assist of the year.

WestConn improves to 9-3 on the season and 2-1 in the LEC.

Eastern Connecticut, now 5-4 overall and 2-1 in the league, got on the scoreboard at the 10:40 mark when Sean Cafferty (Clinton, Conn.) headed home a 30-yard pass from Will Toomey (Willington, Conn.).  It was The Morgan School product's first collegiate goal.

WestConn freshman Daniel Villalba (Fairfield, Conn.) knotted the score at 1-1 in virtually the same way the visitor's took the early lead.  He received a 40-yard pass from Kent Eannarino (Brookfield, Conn.), took one dribble toward the middle of the box and booted the ball into the back of the onion bag.  It was the sophomore's first collegiate marker.

Senior Daniel Szabo (Trumbull, Conn.) finished the night with four saves for WestConn, none bigger than when he stuffed Ryan Sirois (Tolland, Conn.) break-away attempt at the top of the box with 14 minutes remaining in regulation.

Sophomore net minder Dylan Pallanck (Willington, Conn.) made nine stops for the Warriors.

WestConn out shot the Warriors, 25-11 on the night.  Twice a Warriors' defender cleared the ball off the line to keep the hosts at bay in the 46th (Larson Richards (Mansfield, Conn.)) and 83rd minute (Alexander Voigt (Miami, Fla.)) of play.

WestConn travels to Castleton University this Saturday, October 2.  Game time in the Green Mountain State is slated for 4 pm.

ECSU plays host to Keene State College on Saturday at 1 pm.
