Top-Seeded Women's Lacrosse Downs Fourth-Seeded Keene State in LEC Semifinals, 11-8

Box Score DANBURY, Conn. - The top-seeded Western Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team downed visiting fourth-seeded Keene State, 11-8, in the Little East Conference Postseason Tournament semifinal round on Thursday night at the Westside Athletic Complex. With the win, the Colonials remain undefeated as they improved to 8-0 overall, while the Owls concluded the season at 6-4.

WestConn will play host to visiting third-seeded Plymouth State in the LEC Championship game on Saturday at 2 pm. Trailing 7-3 in the second half of Thursday's other semifinal matchup, the Panthers rallied to edge second-seeded host Southern Maine in overtime, 8-7.

Junior attack Dominique DeMarsico (Danbury, Conn.) paced the Colonials with a game-high five goals and one assist, while sophomore attack Alexa Riggio (North Massapequa, N.Y.) contributed four goals. Rookie attacker Victoria Gracy (Bethel, Conn.) chipped in with two scoring strikes and a pair of helpers.

Haile Ratajack and Brigid Casey each notched three goals and one assist to lead Keene State, while Ali Daisy notched two goals and two assists.

The visitors got on the board first as Daisy buried her 28th goal of the season. However, the hosts retaliated with a five goal run and would not look back. Gracy ignited the barrage with her 21st of the year. Shortly thereafter, she fired a pass from behind the cage to Riggio who quick-sticked the ball into the twine from just above the circle.

The Owls would trim the advantage to 5-3 before DeMarsico netted a free-position shot, extending the Colonials lead to 6-3 at halftime.

WestConn would tack onto the lead when DeMarsico earned her 20th goal of the slate, stretching it to 10-4. Keene State made things interesting as they countered with four of the next five goals, slicing the deficit to 11-8 with just under five minutes remaining. However, WestConn was able to fend off yet another semifinal comeback attempt.

Sophomore netminder Anna Schipf (Babylon, N.Y.) put together another strong effort, finishing with six saves for WestConn.

The Colonials will seek to advance to their first-ever NCAA Division III Championships on Saturday.
