Galligan Scores Six Goals In Win At ECSU, 20-7

MANSFIELD, Conn. - Senior attack Caroline Galligan (Marshfield, Mass.) scored six goals, four in the first 11:10 or the game, to lead the Western Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team to a convincing 20-7 victory over intra-state rival Eastern Connecticut State University at Rick McCarthy Field on Tuesday afternoon.

The Colonials, winners of four straight to open the season, is also now 4-0 in the Little East Conference.  They rattled of the game's first 10 goals in just over 20 minutes of action against the Warriors.  Sophomore Alexa Riggio (North Massapequa, N.Y.) capped off the early barrage with her 10th goal of the season.  She was set up by an assist from Galligan, who finished tied with freshman Victoria Gracy for a game-high seven total points.  Gracy rattled off four goals and three assists in the victory.

"Everyone loves and intra-state fival game," said WestConn head coach Meghan Els.  "We came out strong to give us a good lead and continued to work hard until the end."

WestConn junior Dominique DeMarsico (Danbury, Conn.) and Brianna Pota (East Meadow, N.Y.) tallied three and two goals, respectively for WestConn.

Tristan Kijak led the Warriors, now 7-4 overall and 1-3 in the league, with five goals on Tuesday.

Anna Schipf (Babylon, N.Y.) was outstanding in net for WestConn, making eight saves.  

"Anna played lights out in cage, securing 13-goal advantage," added Els.

Sarah Gallagher suffered the loss for ECSU after yielding 15 goals over the first 45 minutes.  She made five saves before giving way to Nicole Gaston, who made one save down the stretch.

The Colonials take on Plymouth State University on Saturday, April 17 at the Westside Athletic Complex.  Game time with the Panthers is slated for 2 pm.  PSU, which is taking on WestConn head coach Meghan Els' alma meter Castleton University at press time, is currently 3-0 and is the defending (2019) LEC champions.
