Box Score DANBURY, Conn. - Senior
Caroline Galligan (Marshfield, Conn) scored six goals and assisted on two others to lead the Western Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team to a 13-5 victory over Keene State College at The Westside Athletic Complex in the first game in 385 days.
Galligan scored a pair of goals in the first half then doubled her output in the second stanza. The final tally came with 12:26 left in the game and gave the Colonials a comfortable 11-3 advantage.
Freshman
Victoria Gracy (Bethel, Conn.) scored her two first collegiate goals for WestConn, now 1-0 overall and in the Little East Conference.
"After over a year since our last game, I am very proud of this group for coming out strong and getting a win," said Interim Head Coach
Meghan Els. "This is a great start to the season, but it is only the beginning. We look forward to getting back out there and focusing on the next one."
Keene State, now 1-1 overall, drop to 0-1 in the LEC on the young season.
The visitors were led by Haile Ratajack (Brewster, N.Y.) who scored three goals and assisted on two others for five total points. Brigid Casey (Mount Vernon, N.H.) chipped in two goals for the Owls.
WestConn sophomore net minder
Anna Schipf (Babylon, N.Y.) made nine saves for the winners.
Haley Terva (Granby, Conn.) kept KSC within relative striking distance all afternoon as she made 17 saves.
The Colonials out-shot the Owls, 33-20 on the afternoon.
WestConn continues its LEC-only slate next Saturday, April 3 when it travels to University of Southern Maine to meet the Huskies at 2 pm. The Owls continue their road trip when they head to Providence, R.I. next Saturday for a 1 pm tilt with Rhode Island College.
